"LEAD POISONING: AN EPIDEMIC IN MISSOURI"
Lead levels as low as 2 or 3 micrograms per deciliter of blood (mcg/deciliter) reduce children's IQ, diminish math and reading skills and makes behavior worse. But the City of St. Louis sees no problem with lead levels up to 12 mcg/deciliter. Host Don Fitz and guest Nadim Kanafani, a physician with Grace Hill Neighborhood Services, discuss lead problems in pregnant women and children and the need for a lead summit in St. Louis. This episode of Green Time includes the September 2004 Pesto Feast lecture by Bob Lunsford, with People at Risk. Mr. Lunsford explains the way lead mining companies poison rural Missouri and get to use federal land for free while doing it.

"THE LAST JOURNEY FOR THE LEATHERBACK?" is a hard hitting documentary that combines science, activism and rare footage of endangered sea turtles. Sea turtles are quickly reaching the status of dolphins and whales and conservationists are becoming increasingly alarmed and active in their fight to save these gentle giants, and to stop the wide-spread impacts on the world's ocean ecosystems. The giant Pacific leatherback sea turtle, which has survived unchanged for over 100 million years, could vanish in the next 5 to 30 years, if current threats from wasteful industrial longline fishing are not curtailed. The female nesting population of leatherback sea turtles in the Pacific Ocean has collapsed by 95% in 20 years.

Imagine a vicious monster hiding underground, stealing the legs, arms and lives of passersby.  And instead of fighting the monster - banishing it - men willingly sow more of them for growing misery.  St. Louis producer Rev. Stephen P. Starr and director Edwin R. Slogar present the stories of environmental and human devastation, hunger and misery caused by landmines.  And how American companies are still producing landmines, how the US government continues to distribute them to Third World nations, and refuses to join the International Treaty to Ban Landmines.

"THE WHOLE DANCE OF EVERYTHING"
This episode of Green Time features the second half of Suzanne Renard's May 2004 workshop at Midwest Biodevastation 8 in St. Louis. Entitled "The ABCs of Genetic Engineering for Students from 10 to 80," the workshop explored the beginning of hybridization with the Green Revolution, which claimed to "feed the world." Ms. Renard looks at the downsides of that change and of the Gene Revolution that followed it. Focusing on the interconnectedness of organisms, she contrasts effects found in the lab with effects an agricultural technique can have in a different climate and culture.

"THE ABCs OF GENETIC ENGINEERING FOR STUDENTS FROM 10 TO 80"
In her May 2004 workshop at Midwest Biodevastation 8 in St. Louis, Suzanne Renard covers basic issues of genetic engineering such as its difference from hybridization, the process of getting a gene into a victim cell, and interactions between genes and traits. This episode of Green Time captures her comparing genetic engineering, which she prefers to call "genetic tinkering," to actions of a real engineer who designs a bridge without knowing where it will end up and then opens it to the public without first testing it. Ms. Renard describes chemicalized farming as a form of drug addiction.

In footage from his presentation at the May 2003 Biodevastation 7 conference in St. Louis, he explains why Zambia thought such food was too risky to import. Zambian scientists were worried that potentially allergy-exacerbating GE food could affect the very young, very old, sick and immune-compromised.
